چکیده

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) polymorphisms in four species of macaques, i.e., Japanese monkey (Macaca fuscata), rhesus monkey (M. mulatta), Formosan monkey (M. cyclopis), and crab-eating monkey (M. fascicularis), were analyzed to study phylogenetic relationships. When 17 restriction enzymes of 6-bp recognition were used, 42-49 sites were observed in the samples. The estimated number of nucleotide substitutions per site among Japanese, rhesus, and Formosan monkeys ranges from 0.0318 to 0.0396, and that between the crab-eating monkey and the other monkeys from 0.0577 to 0.0653. These findings suggest that the crab-eating monkey diverged from the other three approximately 1.5-3.0 Myr before the present (Mybp) and that the Japanese, rhesus, and Formosan monkeys diverged approximately 0.9-1.8 Mybp, although the branching order cannot be determined conclusively.

Gain of a New Exon by a Lineage-Specific Alu Element-Integration Event in the BCS1L Gene during Primate Evolution

BCS1L gene encodes mitochondrial protein and is a member of conserved AAA protein family. This gene is involved in the incorporation of Rieske FeS and Qcr10p into complex III of respiratory chain. In our previous study, AluYRa2-derived alternative transcript in rhesus monkey genome was identified. However, this transcript has not been reported in human genome. In present study, we conducted evo...

Molecular phylogeny of macaques: implications of nucleotide sequences from an 896-base pair region of mitochondrial DNA.

We determined the nucleotide sequences of an 896-base pair region of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from 20 primates representing 13 species of macaques, a baboon, and a patas. We compared these sequences and the homologous sequences from four macaques and a human against each other and deduced the phylogenetic relationships of macaques. The results from the phylogenetic analyses revealed five group...

Analysis of the virogenes related to the rhesus monkey endogenous type C retrovirus in monkeys and apes.

Molecular hybridization studies were carried out by using a [3H]complementary DNA (cDNA) probe to compare the endogenous type C retrovirus of rhesus monkeys (MMC-1) with other known retroviruses and related sequences in various primate DNAs. The genomic RNA of the endogenous type C retrovirus of stumptail monkeys (MAC-1) was found to be highly related to the MMC-1 cDNA probe, whereas the other ...

Phylogenetic relationships of the commercial marine shrimp family Penaeidae from Persian Gulf

Phylogenetic relationships among all described species (total of 5 taxa) of the shrimp genus Penaeus, were examined with nucleotide sequence data from portions of mitochondrial gene and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI). There are twelve commercial shrimp in the Iranian coastal waters. The reconstruction of the evolution phylogeny of these species is crucial in revealing stock identity that ca...
